The Nature of Work in a World With AI
Meeting Description

Details
What will be the nature of our work and leisure time if/when technology gets to the point where many computers might deserve to be called "intelligent"? Will we need to work? If not, what will we do? Will we get "paid" in the current sense? If not, what alternatives might we have. Will there be haves and have-nots, and if so, what will the havers have?
I'd like to (quite arbitrarily) suggest that we limit this talk to the scenario where we have sentient machinery but not (yet) fullblown molecular manufacturing, and we might have somewhat prolonged lifespans but not (yet) uploading of our minds into computers. Basically, a world much like the world today, but enriched with sentient machinery.
If you feel you have a lot to say on this topic you could do a 5-10 minute talk as an introduction to your point of view. Otherwise you can just participate in the usual free-for-all discussion.
Remember, 12 Noon at the TechShop.

"There will not only be many AIs, but many kinds of AIs, and I think they will gradually increase in capability so that at least the people who are paying attention will have time to adapt./"
